Mensch Attends Ashly Moyer Memorial Road Ceremony

On Thursday, October 22, at a ceremony in Lower Macungie Township, a portion of Brookside Road (State Route 2071) was designated the Sergeant Ashly L. Moyer Memorial Road.

"Sergeant Moyer gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of her country.  As a fellow veteran, I am humbled and honored to participate in this dedication," said Senator Bob Mensch (R-24th).

Ashly Moyer, a Lehigh County Resident, graduated from Emmaus High School in 2003.  She joined the Armed Forces and served in the Army as a member of the 630th Military Police Company, 793rd Military Police Battalion and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Bamberg, Germany before being assigned to Iraq.

On March 3, 2007, Sgt. Moyer was killed by a roadside bomb while on a routine patrol driving an armored Humvee in central Baghdad.  At the time of her death, Ashly was survived by her parents, Jane Drumheller of Pike County and Michael Moyer of Lower Macungie Township; brothers Tyler, 12 and Kyle 10; a sister, Teagan, 8; and a stepsister, Karissa, 21.

Rep. Doug Reichley (R-134th) authored legislation to name the portion of Brookside Road from Route 222 to Buckeye Road after Sgt. Moyer. The legislation was included in a Senate bill which was signed into law by the governor on July 2.

Senator Mensch was joined at the ceremony by Rep. Reichley, Ashly’s father, Michael, and stepmother Peggy Sue McCarthy; stepsisters Teagan Moyer and Karissa Thomas; stepmother Deb Moyer; Charles Sincavage of PennDOT and Vi Wagner from the Lehigh County Veteran Affairs Office.
